PARAMETRIC APPLICATION OF COMPLEX TERRAIN ANALYSIS
From site selection, urban design and layout, functional planning, to building allocation, landscape design and ecology strategies, complex terrain research and analysis is one of the critical scientific subjects as the key foundation of all planning activities. The fundamental of terrain analysis starts with the formation of DEM model, based on which large amount of data computation and reconstruction are to be developed. Current key sources of DEM model can be found through: 1. Digital contouring information; 2. Distantly sensed image data processing. Terrain analysis mainly focuses on elevation data studies, slope condition, slope direction, cut-and-fill calculation. This ADARC lecture will introduce several parametric tools which can offer computation analysis on DEM model. Data sets from the analysis are to be meaningful helps for planners and architects for design decision making based on scientific findings.
